Is this actually a genre or does it come under fantasy or science fiction?

I just started working on a novel that has a Superman type superhero in it, but he won't actually be on stage for more than a few pages, glimpsed by other characters as he flies through the sky or seen on TV hauling a criminal to jail. He might come into the story with a few lines to speak in the last few pages, but other than that, the story is about a few characters who are obsessed with the superhero, but don't have any contact with him.

It's supposed to be funny, or at least not too serious, and have some fun with the whole concept of superheroes, but I consider it to be a story about quirky characters with hopefully something funny to say about obsession. But am I really just writing a book that would be classified as a superhero novel?

The whole question probably doesn't matter, because my last novel attempt ended at about page 175, but I'm hoping I actually finish this one.

Cheering you all on!
Personally, I consider superheroes to fall under fantasy.

Given the pseudoscience explanations most now have I would lean more for a sub-genre of sci fi, mutants, aliens, radioctive spiders and all that...

There is a magazine called Cyber Age Adventuries that calls its stories Superhero Genre. While the magazine has its own writing staff, they do accept submissions. I'd give you link to the site, but I'm still trying to figure out how to use this message board.

Thanks, ghuffman. I actually already found that site when I first got the idea, which I originally thought would be a short story.
