Hi everyone,

More and more agents are looking to pick up GN concepts and I'm curious if anyone knows what has to go into a proposal package.

Do you need to have an entire GN script complete? Or just a few sample pages?

What kind of proposal is needed? I know a synopsis of story, target audience, writer's bio, character profiles, etc is required. Anything else?

I know some lit agents don't mind if an artist isn't attached as the publisher might choose for them. Thoughts?

Thanks for any help! Feel free to add anything I may have neglected.

In this 2009-10 thread some people share their experiences querying.Almost all require some finish sample pages.

Agents want the script to be completed and polished, and with that they want at *least* one chapter of finished art. Most do not want/need the book to be completely drawn/colored/final, because it makes revisions much harder. My queries include a link to my sample chapter on my website, and I have a synopsis with character sketches and a full .doc script all ready upon request.

From a 2011 thread an agent specified:

I feel that I would need to see a further developed project before getting on board, though. Please feel free to resubmit to me when you have more material. I typically request 10-15 pages of completed artwork, a synopsis, and a script, for consideration.

I'm just curious as to the source of this idea. Why do you say agents are more often looking for graphic novel concepts?

thanks,
