I was due to retire last November but was asked to stay on at the school I was working at to see the year 11 (15/16 year old) pupils through to their exams. Today was my last day at work. I feel just a tad emotional - will miss the pupils and colleagues but not the stress of teaching and marking. Nor will I miss the child protection issues or school politics. I am looking forward to being able to focus on developing my writing, embroidery and patchwork.

I had a lovely celebration lunch with some colleagues I have known for a short time and one who I have known for over a decade. I am so thrilled that he has just got a new job that he richly deserves. Lunch was so good - I had lots of cuddles and hugs, some gifts and lots of cards.

So looking forward to the rest of my life . . . please help me celebrate and raise a glass (or a bottle) to my future . . . and yours.

You'll soon settle into it, S.

Some of the best years of my life have been after I retired- can't think how I ever found time to work.

Have fun.

Here's to you- and yours. :partyguy:

Good luck, Bear! And nice one on surviving teaching that long! LOL!

I really envy you. I can't wait until I retire.

Congrats, and ENJOY!

But wait . . . I am confused. "No more work?"

I've been under the impression you were a woman, so how can that be? :D

I have a sign in my house that says "You are welcome to admire the dust, but please do not write in it." I intend to do as little house work as possible, eat out as frequently as I can afford and the rest of my intentions I will post if they come to fruition!

Out of the politics of teaching? Congratulations, Bear. You have just tacked a decade onto your life. The politics will do you in physically just as certainly as smoking or beer swilling. --s6

Congratulations, Shakesbear!!!

This is exactly what I'd like to say but Gail beat me to it and as she's a friend, I shall shamelessly quote her:

*raises glass*

To being a lady of leisure! Long may it last! :D

That's awesome, congratulations! My dad retired last year and is having the time of his life.
