Is there anything like what Demand Studios used to be?

Little bit of background: I was a freelance writer for a few years, but in the end decided it wasn't something I wanted to do long term--too much hustle, and it didn't leave me with much time or energy for fiction writing, which is my real passion. So I went back to the real-world job force for a while, but right now the household budget is a little tight and I was hoping to make some quick money writing content. When I was freelancing I wrote for Demand a fair bit, and what I liked about them was that the work was steady and it paid a decent rate up front. (Most DS assignments paid $15-20, and I could finish it in about an hour.)

Are there any content providers like that out there now? I know DS kind of restructured itself a while back, and when I log in now there are only three titles available to me, none of which I could write quickly enough to make it worth my time. Looking around the internet, it looks like most content providers pay their writers considerably less, or they pay on a per-pageview system, which may indeed work out to more money in the long run but I need the money now.

I guess it wouldn't even have to be content writing--it could be blogging or keywording photos or naming paint chip colors or whatever. I'm just looking for something where the pay would work out to about $10/hr after taxes.

Write.com was a steady source of income to many content writers until April ($11-$15 per 300-word article, $50 bonuses per 25 assignments completed, payouts on demand), but they went on hiatus a couple months ago and are now only open to beta writers. It's uncertain when they will start taking applications for writers again, but it may be worth your while to keep an eye out.

The Content Authority may have what you want, but likely only if you get approved as a Tier 4 writer. Tier 1 rates are so low I don't even remember what they are, Tier 2 is $5.00 per 500 words, Tier 3 is $7.50 per 500 words and Tier 4 is $9.00 per 500 words.

Content sites aren't a great source of reliable income, as I'm sure you've noticed. It may be in your interests to seek out private clients via Elance or another forum. They're often more stable and higher paying if you can identify a good niche for yourself.

Textbroker pays 5c/word at level 5, but you have to jump through some hoops to get there. And I know some people have good luck with oDesk, but I don't have any personal experience with it.

Good luck.
