EA scores exclusive licensing deal for Star Wars

Kotaku's article on the deal. The new Star Wars games will be handled by BioWare, Visceral Games, and DICE. There's no word from EA on whether the cancelled First Assault or 1313 will be picked up by any of the studios, but this is a first step towards possibly seeing those games released—let alone highly-desired sequels to the Knights of the Old Republic and Battlefront series. BioWare would be the obvious choice for KotOR having made the first game, DICE would be an excellent pick for First Assault/Battlefront 3 with their experience with the Battlefield series, and Visceral could tackle 1313.

It'll still probably be a while until we see any games comes of this deal, though. Fingers shall remain crossed for a long time.

Not only would I not mind it, but I would gladly trade the entire future of the franchise for nothing but singleplayer KOTOR sequels from Bioware going forward, forever and ever, amen.

Either way though, I don't have a huge problem with this. You had to know it was going to be one of the big mega-publishers that ended up with the license considering how expensive it must have been. And as much hate as EA gets (sometimes for very good reason), I'll still take them over Activision any day of the week.

Besides, they pretty much assuaged any worries I had when they revealed which studios would be working on the games. Those are some of the best in EA's fold. And it's not like Lucasarts was doing much with Star Wars lately anyway. 1313 looked promising, but I'm at the point where my Star Wars bias makes it difficult to tell when I'm being overly optimistic because I want something to be awesome.
