So there's this wild cherry tree and the leaves, normal, green, and unblemished until now, have sprouted with these really odd red projectile growths.

I'm going to go try to get a picture. Anyone know what this is?

I think they're finger galls, which are produced by eriophyid mites.

ETA: Nothing to do with the other set of fingers in the pic!

They're leaf galls caused by mites. The growths are actually part of the leaf.

The tree will drop the leaves at some point and there's not much to be done about them. They won't kill the tree or anything.

There's a webpage here about galls and if you scroll down, you'll see a picture of cherry pouch galls.
