I'm planing on writing a real-life story about my freshman year in high school and the life events that happens to me! But, I want to turn this into a comedy because I don't want people to be depressed. I want them to be happy and laugh! And got this crazy idea to turn it to a musical as well with my own lyrics (not from any singers, bands, or people from the Internet) just my own music! I try to look up novels that did that but I got nothing! Also, I want to dedicated the book to the vitcims of bullying and to the ones who take their lives from bullying. I don't want people to feel bad for me.

Will you guys help me. Plus, I have autism!

Look up a movie called Colma. It's actually a musical and it's so underrated. Most people have never heard of it, but I think it's really good! it totally reminded me of your story!

Thanks! Have you heard someone writing a musical-book? Like writing your own lyrics into a book like a movie-musical?

It's an interesting idea and it could work.

Not that it's really close, but my favorite childhood author Brian Jacques used to toss in a lot of songs and poems he wrote as a form of culture/ world building, and he did it multiple times per book.

If you can manage to integrate your music and make it part of the story, there's a chance this might work. However, you might want to keep it limited and have a legitimate reason as to why there's so much singing, otherwise it might alienate people. They can't actually hear any of the songs you're writing...

Is the songwriting something your characters do? That would give a legitimate reason for them to be there.

Wow ChynaAnn, you are brave. My eldest son is autistic so I am deeply impressed with your positive take on life.

Basically you can put whatever you like in a book as long as it's good. However, it might be an idea to write the book first, especially with the comedy angle, and then add in the lyrics once you have the plot and characters etc in place.
However, I've never heard of a book that's also a musical. It's usually books that have been successful and subsequently get translated into movies/musicals etc. This doesn't mean that you can't do it though. Write the book and the lyrics and see where it takes you.

Another idea is to have a protagonist who love music and creates lyrics for songs as a way to express herself in the book. Could be a nice quirky trait for an MC.

The net gives us an opportunity to create multimedia works.

I agree with Guinea above -- write the manuscript first.

Then, if you decided to seek non-traditional publishing, you might post it on the web and incorporate your own music and visuals.

Hone your writing skills (stick around AW and read the threads on writing), and write the book as you see fit. It doesn't matter if the way you write it has been done or not; it matters if it hooks the reader and carries the reader through without any bumps or them scratching their heads and saying "Huh?!"

It's great you seem enthusiastic about it. :) (By the way, my sons are on the autistic spectrum and I find they are good writers due to the way they interpret the world around them. It is far easier for them to write their thoughts down than to verbally communicate them.)
