Hello – again. I joined this board years ago but found the size and scope a bit daunting and impersonal, so I sort of gave up before giving it a fair crack.
Instead I returned to my comfort zone within an English writing forum - which is a nice, small, friendly place in which I ‘know’ all the regulars. But I’ve always been aware that the size of its membership means that it’s not the fount of all knowledge and many threads get clogged with trivia: fun sometimes – but not very productive and sometimes downright irritating – and if you dare to complain you get jumped on for being a kill joy!
So, whilst I’m not giving up with my touchy, feely writing forum – I’m back to try again with Absolute Write – simply because, as a writer, I might gain more from these threads.

Claudia, a huge forum like this can indeed be overwhelming. Maybe you'll be happiest here if you mostly explore the boards of a few favorite topics, until you feel as if you know the regulars there, then add another, and another.

At Office Party, Ray's House of Love always has friendly people and a reasonable pace anybody can keep up with. It's strictly social, rarely much serious writing talk, although we all write. You're more than welcome there. Well, that's true of everywhere, duh!

Maryn, pleased to see you

Welcome, Claudia. Maryn's advice is good I feel; I have approached this place in exactly that manner - only taking on bite-sized amounts at a time. :D Makes it all much easier, the "pick and choose" method.

And it's worth it, as you know, because of the wealth of information here, to put some effort into finding your way. Or I have found it worth it, at any rate.

Enjoy exploring here!

Welcome. Yes, this place is big, but you'll be fine if you choose a few forums to be a regular in, such as what genres you're interested in. There are also some non-writing forums around here where people just have fun. Even in some of the writing threads, you'll see the occasional joke, but writing threads tend to be serious.
