So, I'm wondering what the current population count of AW is. How fast is it growing? How many hits per day?

Thanks!

Blessings,

Well, we currently (at making of this post) have 51,355 members. I've no idea about the other two questions, only Mac or Lisa would have that info.

And the population went up by 6 since Jed posted.

Keep in mind that many many members post rarely, some were active for a while and then dropped out.

I seem to remember a 'purge' a couple of years ago. Any member that hadn't posted in a certain (generous) period of time was dropped.

We purge inactive accounts on a regular basis. So the count reflects members who have logged in in the last 12 months or so.

We don't generally release other kinds of data, but we're growing at a steady clip. Enough that I'm eyeing the server and bandwidth and thinking about RAM and such as part of the next software bump.

We have around a quarter of a million unique visitors a month, with between two and three million page loads.

That's amazing! Thanks so much for the info. And my combined astonishment and gratitude that you can handle so many.

It IS kind of mind-blowing. And we're currently deleting about 1200-1500 would-be spambot accounts, every day.

I guess I'm a rare poster, too?:e2shrug:

Oh well. I post when I feel I have something valuable to say or when I'm seeking advice, but that's about it. I lurked for a long time before joining and I'm still more or less a lurker, lol.

And yeah, impressive stats. Way to go, AW!!! :e2woo:

Just logging in is enough; you don't need to post.

I'll tell hubs to log in then, I was so excited when I found this place that he joined as well, mostly to read some of the threads... ok sometimes the whole wife to husband communication thingy is non-existant and I just tell him to go read the thread himself! :D

He's happy I've found this place, now I have someone to talk to about writing.

Crap, does this mean I should go put my pants back on?

I'm a computer idiot. What does "purge" mean here? Accounts deleted?

The accounts are removed if they've never posted and haven't logged in in the last year. If they've posted, they're not purged.

The archiving system will periodically archive older threads that haven't been touched; they're still there but they're stored in a compressed format.

That means much less stress on the database, and speeds things like indexing enormously.

When I look at the number of AW tabs I have open right now, I'm surprised the ratio isn't skewed even further towards pageviews.

And when there's something interesting going on in TIO...

I guess the myriad of unique visitors help to offset the AW-aholics :)
