You can put them in "document notes" on the sidebar if you have the Inspector view show (click the big blue I on the side). Or in the synopsis area as well.

Cool thanks. Not quite what I was hoping for but close. I thought the big "I" was for information / help lol

For a lot of people, the easiest way, hands down, to learn Scrivener is to watch the YouTube videos posted by Latte and Literature, the Scrivener developers.

If I were to do that I would become lost in the world of "other videos you may like...." and forever remain there until my wife sends in the kids to get me. But thank you lol

Click on the "comment" icon (looks like a yellow speech bubble) on the toolbar and you can insert notes which don't add to your word count. The comment shows up in the right hand margin.

If you're on a mac, shift+command+a will insert an annotation in-text. The annotation will be in red text, and there'll be a bubble around it so it stands out and I've found it really useful.

I'm not sure about the Windows Scrivener version, though.

Thanks, I didn't know you could do that!:)

It does add to the word count, however.

Inline annotations. They don’t get printed. On the windows version, it’s ctrl+shift+a.

You can even change the colors, and turn on/off a ghost mode that makes them more/less visible depending on if you have it selected.

I don't remember if they add to the word count though, and I unfortunately don't have the time to check it out right now.

I just checked and the inline annotations function adds to the wordcount in the windows version as well.

You'll probably want to use the normal comments tool (shift+f4). They show up in the last tab of the inspector (the small "n" icon), and are very much like normal MS Word comments.
