Can't resist. I NEED to know.

EDIT: I was tempted to post this in Roundtable, but I don't think I'll get an accurate sample. I really want to know how many book readers/writers here are fans of manga/anime, and I'd say virtually everyone on the site at least spends a little time here :D

Yes, all of the above. And LNs, and VNs, and WCs.

This should be in Roundtable, or hell, Office Party frankly.

I'd vote "yes" but I don't know what those other words mean. I don't watch/read that much to be honest. Just a handful that I find interesting for one reason or another.

Yes, pretty much evenly split between shounen, shoujo, and yaoi/june. Really, I prefer the fantasy and science fiction ones regardless of what audience they are intended for.

I've watched some anime, but I have no idea which of those categories it would fall into, so I can't vote.

I can't really vote either. I USED TO like anime when I was a kid/teen and I've read maybe 3 mangas in my lifetime. So I'm not a current anime/manga fan but I used to like it in the past.

Yeah, I read a ton of manga, both for fun and work (one of my freelance jobs is editing translated manga scripts).

I love any Hayao Miyzaki films and rewatch them a lot. I miss the creativity of 90s anime, can't get into the newer stuff...I think i grew out of anime a bit too, not too new anymore and now I'm older and accustomed to all the tropes.

Anyone care to recommend anime to me? Besides Miyazaki, I liked Trigun, Escaflowne, FLCL, Rurouni Kenshin, cowboy bebop, etc. I'll admit, I don't have the patience with it that I used to.

I used to be into it.

I want to start watching Full Metal Alchemist soon.

Mostly shonen, btw. Most shoju bores me. The only seinen I've read/watched is Cowboy Bebop. I've never read any josei.

I will add the following caveat to my 'No' vote, and that is, I did read Death Note at my daughter's insistence and found it to be quite good. I've pretty much avoided the rest of it, however.

I used to read manga, not a lot, but in moderate amounts; still do a bit, not the categories above though, so can't vote.

I really like anime. Seinen is my favorite genre, but shonen and shoujo can be nice too. We have an anime/manga thread in the Movies, TV, and Theater section, by the way.

I'm not super into it, but I do really like it. I have a few manga series and a few anime series and a couple that I have in both formats. Fantasy/sci-fi types.

My current WIP is highly inspired by an anime/manga series.

Growing up I was (and still am) a huge Sailor Moon, Rayearth, and Tenchi Muyo fan. But Parasyte is my favorite manga series ever.

You really need to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion if you haven't yet. Also Revolutionary Girl Utena and Serial Experiments Lain. They practically define "creative 90s anime."

As for recent anime?

Watch Mawaru Penguindrum and Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica.

I didn't know about the names of different manga or anime. All I know is I love manga and anime, if they're in English of course. I don't speak Japanese. Wait. Are they Japanese?

I voted 'No.' When I was little I loved Pokemon, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, and, more recently, I've seen Totoro and want to try some other Miyazaki films. That's about my extent of anime; it's not something that particularly interests me.

I split most of what I watch between shounen and shoujo. Recently I went on a CLAMP binge watching Chobits and xxxHolic again. I think I'm finally going to sink my teeth into Hellsing after watching the first episode almost ten years ago.

I remember before Bleach came out in US, I found it lurking Japanese websites. So I have old home burned DVDs of the first thirty eps with subs from my freshman year of hs in 2004-05.

I have the original Japanese sailor moon mangas, the Japanese special editions, the Japanese original Sailor V books, the special edition ones of those, the original English Moon books, the English V books, and most of the special edition English books. I have Cardcaptor Sakura in English. I tried Love Hina but got bored. The first book was so so. The second book didn't even try to have much of a plot. Safe to say I like magical girl manga. You should see my sailor moon doll and figurine and key chain collection!

I've watched a few episodes of anime with friends. For the longest time, I thought it was stupid, but after watching it, I had an appreciation for it. I'm open now to the idea. I have the feeling I'd actually like it since a lot of it shares similarities with fantasy. In fact, some of my favorite video games are Japanese RPG's, which are heavily influenced by anime and manga, I think.

Anime and manga are just media. They encompass all kinds of different genres, from sci-fi and fantasy to slice-of-life and everything in between. You can find manga about just about anything. It's as diverse as novels, except there are pictures.

Awesome! I have quite the collection of dolls and keychains myself. Also cards. Lots of cards. And Tenchi keychains and cards as well.
