Hi, I'm reading "Social Media" by Kristen Lamb and she mentions Myspace along with facebook and bloging. I'm just wondering are writers and authors starting myspace pages?

Thanks, Nick

I'm almost certain that place is dead to the general public!
Originally I think it was for music but with youtube and even SoundCloud I'm not sure what it's used for now.

In terms of using it to promote your book I've never heard anyone mention MySpace, only twitter and facebook, as well as creating your own blog.

Myspace seems dead. It's still out there... just gone under the radar :)

Good luck and happy writing!

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't bother with MySpace. I heard Justin Timberlake was trying to revive it, but haven't heard any word on whether he succeeded or not.

The "new" MySpace has only recently launched to beta users. I've been poking around a bit, and honestly it looks amazing but is quite limited in terms of features. I'd be surprised if it was ever completely revived.

I think Myspace was slaughtered by Facebook. Personally, I'm not interested in using either. The only sort of social networking I do is Tumblr and my blog. I'm not interested in the social profile type of site.

What everyone else said. Furthermore. I looked up the book - it's two and a half years old, and I thought Myspace had died well before then (except MAYBE it was still common for musical acts to use).

I looked further and found these blogposts by the author mentioning MySpace:
http://warriorwriters.wordpress.com/tag/myspace/
The first entry says:
I think that this was a big reason MySpace collapsed. Yes, I mention MySpace in WANA. Feel free to ignore all 5 of those pages.
The second blog entry there, metioning MySpace "hemorrhaging," looks good too. Scanning through other entries, there's a lot of good sense on this blog, not just about specific social media sites, but in general.
