Just Checking Myself In

I've lurked long enough. But the time spent doing that has shown me there's some good people and advice kicking around on this forum, so here I am.

Generally, I'm more of a reader than a poster, so considering that, I'll still be a...well, lurker.

Happy New Year everyone!

Welcome.

"Checking myself in" sounds like you admitting yourself to an insane asylum . . . which is pretty close to accurate. :-)

Hi and welcome,

You say you are a reader, but you do not mention whether you write. Is there a writer in you?

Enjoy your surf around the AW sites.

I predominantly lurk, too. Nothing wrong with that. Mostly it keeps me from making an ass out of myself.

But really, there is some great info here if you look around. Happy reading/writing/lurking/New Year to you!

Okay...was logged in but reply didn't post. Let's try this again.

Thanks for all the warm greetings, everyone!

Eric: Whatever one is called who writes but isn't yet published, that's me.

Only this year did I get serious about getting published. Thus far, I have accomplished two goals: 1) finish at least one work; 2) get at least one work critiqued.

I'm now close to a third goal for this year: putting the final touches on a work that current publishing wisdom states will (almost) guarantee a rejection. And I understand why, however....

While generally in constant doubt, I believe in this piece and keep going back to it--tweaking it, loving it, and embracing it.

Even if no agent wants to touch it, I've gotten a lot out of it. I loved writing it and learned much in the process.

You guys crack me up. (I've been reading posts in other sections, too.)

You're a little twisted and a bit more than edgy. Man, am I at home or what?

A couple of you have referenced the title of my post, and although I didn't realize it at the time, my subconscious was coming through. I am getting over a very harsh critique and the experience has made me...um...fragile and...uh...unstable...and eh....
