So there is the obvious components to the query, logline and plot description. But I have come across multiple formats outside of this structure and I am now getting confused. The queries I sent out were safe and informative, they have gotten me one denial and a whole bunch of non-responses.
So, I am taking a different approach to my queries. Below is what I am sending out to the next group of production companies and agencies. I am not looking for a critique, but rather what additional information (excluding my contact information) should I include?
Dear Director of Development;
The intention of this letter is to gauge the interest of XXXXX in my feature length comedic-drama screenplay, The Goosed.
The Goosed is a story about what happens when greed and principle are on a collision course. Through a series of events, Seth Thomson, a passionate philosophy professor finds himself immersed in an epic battle of wits with a sinister board member of a multi-national corporation. To do what’s right, Seth must fight against unbelievable odds and run the risk of losing those most closest to him in the process. It’s Too Big to Fail meets Pat Tillman.
Over the past few years we have witnessed an astonishing display of apathy by insiders who leveraged the nation’s future for a short term profit and nearly took us all down with them. The Goosed is an acknowledgment of these atrocities with a “what if” element that will energize audiences everywhere. Anyone who is familiar with the financial meltdown of 2008 and the corresponding Great Recession that followed will appreciate this story and the candid dialogue laced throughout it.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Please let me know if you would like to read the full script.
