Not where you last saw me.
Hi, Al

Since AE&BP is for authors promoting their own work, I'll send this over to Round Table for you. Be advised, though, the room mods there may find a better fit for your post.

Hugh's success is well deserved. I look forward to reading more in the Wool series and his other writings.

Honored to be in the same company (AW members...). And a little awed, as well as jealous. :)

Congrats!

Not to mention Alien and Blade Runner. Okay, they must be mentioned in this context.

Very cool.

I have to say, now, that I feel as though I've went and put my foot in my mouth. When I posted that link, I hadn't yet come across the part where he bashes AW. Oops. I had no idea!

Don't worry: AW isn't for everyone, but just because Mr Howey doesn't like it here doesn't mean that it's not fab for others.

For anyone interested, this is what he said about AW:

What are the best and worst places to look for advice on indie publishing?

hughhowey:

That's a loaded question!
The best place is Kindle Boards Writers' Cafe.

The worst place is Absolute Write, but only because I've been permanently banned from that site, which means you can't find my advice there! ;) (Ironically, I was banned for espousing a publishing philosophy that was derided as ridiculous and ended up playing out just as I predicted. The members jumped down my throat, treated me cruelly, and I was tossed out by a moderator who was the cruelest of them all. When a later member posted about this and linked to the thread in question, they too were given a "time out" and their posts were deleted. You want to be inspired to write some dystopian shit, hang out over there).

That's not how I remember his time here, and it's not backed up by the various notes kept in the mod-room, either. But you can make up your own mind by reading some of the longer threads Mr Howey contributed to, if you'd like.

Note that he's not been banned from AW: if he had been, his user-title would say "banned", or "sockpuppet", or one of our various "banned" categories.

I'm sorry for the derail, but I don't like to see people manipulating events to their advantage. Let's get back on-topic, shall we?

It's a fact of internet life that not everyone is at home in every community, and people's interpretations of the same interactions may vary wildly. I'm sorry to hear that he has such a negative impression of AW, but it's a big internet. I'm glad to see that he has found places where he's more comfortable.

We're all grownups. We're capable of taking the good and interesting points from the interview and shrugging off the ones that we don't agree with.
