So, I have been working on what started as an erotic short story (stemming from an amazing dream), and it became more of a drama/romance type story. I don't want to stray too far from the erotica, but events in the story torn it away from that focus. My short story is becoming a novella in length, and I feel if I build more around what I wrote it could become a novel.

So, anyone had that problem? start as one genre but morph into another?

The novel I just finished started out as a quiet horror story about a famous painting that, unbeknownst to the world, sealed an ancient and eldritch evil... and the infamous thief who'd been hired by scary and mysterious people to steal it.

Then I noticed the thief's first meeting with the painting's eccentric but handsome owner sounded a lot flirtier than I'd intended, decided that wasn't a bad thing, and turned my quiet horror into a romance with a backdrop of jiggly things hiding eyeballs where they shouldn't have them. In the words of the venerable Robert Englund, "Just because it's a love story doesn't mean there can't be a decapitation or two."
