Hi again, everyone. I started looking for beta readers for my novel almost three months ago, and am now looking again. I seem to have misplaced all but one of them but have been working on edits in the meantime, so I'd like to get more feedback from one or two willing readers.
Here is the little blurb I wrote last time around. Below is a new one.
> Thus far I have lived in a cramped apartment in New Orleans-A, wishing I could have some sort of identity. It took my mother to not only pass to me a gift to end that existence, but to send me off on a train trip to actually use it for something good, something bigger than myself.—Of course, it also took a new friend to make this trip possible.
>> I served only as a catalyst to that end. Thus far I have lived as a fugitive, searching for some way to escape my personal demons and, just maybe, control my own fate. I jumped at the chance to meet Echo here and guide her in any way possible to improving the world for us fifth-rate beings, toward which my boss and the company have every intention of working. She can propel us into true freedom, or at least help things fall that way.
> Oh, stop it, Malachi. I’m happy to help out whoever needs me. With how our trip is going so far, though, I’d say not everyone is a fan.
>> That is to be expected. We have been spied on, threatened, attacked—Nobody seems to want our unusual pair to arrive. Not that I am really surprised.
> At the end somewhere is machine yearning to be more than the sum of his parts. That’s something my mother would support, and it’s reason enough for an adventure. People have been seeking to wipe my kind out since we came into existence, but now you and I can fix that. Maybe we can fix a lot of things. You’re stuck with me either way.
>> Oh, joy.
The Robot Mother
Science Fiction, ~103000 words
You could call it cyberpunk, I suppose.
Since then, I've cut around 4000 words and have fixed some grammar/plot details. For anyone who is interested, this is what I would like in a beta reader:
*critique on plot/continuity (If anything looks wrong, tell me. If there are problems with any characters, themes, or scenes, you know, say the word.)
*opinion on story quality (Id est, do you like it? Do you think others would like it [maybe even PAY for it]?)
*critique on grammar problems (This is not a must, but every little bit would help. I nitpick my own work probably too much.)
Feel free to be totally honest if you do beta read for me.
If you want to read the first chapter, I did post it in the SYW forum here. Just PM me or post here or whatever you like. Please and thank you.
