I've created half a dozen or so ebooks of varying length. They are erotica. I posted some of them on Amazon, and enrolled a couple of them in KDP Select. I subsequently signed up at Smashwords as well.
At first I had a negative attitude about Amazon. The KDP Select seemed restrictive because I had to wait 90 days to move those books to Smashwords. Also, Amazon blocked one of my books, not really giving a decent explanation why.
However, now I've begun getting steady payments from Amazon, and they're actually more than I thought I had coming. When I was watching my progress, I wasn't checking the other channels like .uk, .it etc. and they were making money as well.
Smashwords is good because they're easier to use, don't have to wait for a book to be approved, and from what I hear (and have experienced to an extent) they're not as censorous as Amazon. They also give me the ability to post a free book... so I put a couple of very short stories out there, which end with excerpts from one of my longer ebooks.
I promote on Facebook and Twitter, occasionally offering freebies. About 700 followers on each, plus sometimes other page owners or Twitter users will repost my links for me.
One thing I need ideas on, preferably from those who use Smashwords: what's a good system for determining where my purchases are coming from? I'd like to figure out which types of marketing are getting me the most results.
