(...That, or I'll be back here in thirty days tail tucked.) :D

You hear me universe? I'm throwing it out there, coming at this full tilt, now let's work together on this one.

Not really sure how anyone should go about replying to this. But figured what better way to throw down the gauntlet before the universe than here, on the greatest writers' website known to man.

you martyr and shine.
Good luck, brother.

The universe continues to snicker at all of my plans and schemes.

@ DL: thanks, sista. If, ahem, I mean WHEN this happens, know I couldn't have accomplished this feat without the selfless help of such a brilliant crit partner.

@ tg51: 'Preciate it. I fully intend on slaying this self-imposed challenge.

@ whichever mod moved this thread: thanks. Wasn't sure where to post something so self-indulgent. :)

Good luck - I sent one query a day for 30 days straight. Diligence, diligence. It really got my ass in gear.

Set achievable goals. Lots of agents take 30 days to reply. So unless you've already sent out the winning query, you've lost.

How about, 'I will query one agent a day for 30 days,' as suggested above. It's more realistic and more in your own control. (And there's no way I could do it. After a week I'd just sit in a little puddle of misery and die. And after I'd died I'd wonder if perhaps I should just have sent out half a dozen queries and waited for responses and then refined my query in SYW Query Hell and maybe treated the whole thing as a marathon and not a sprint. But that's a different thread.)

Good luck with it anyway.

Best of luck to you in your quest! Now that you've publicly stated your intentions to the universe, surely it will come true.

Thanks, everyone. I will absolutely report back, whether tail tucked or head held high. 'Preciate all the well wishes; they strengthen my resolve.

Thank you. I'm approaching this more in the vein I've been running this marathon for years and NOW I'm sprinting toward the finish line.

As a realist, I wholly understand the portion of your post I snipped. I'd just better hope I've got something good, something that connects with the right person willing to go to battle for my words. I believe in the much recited formula that the road to getting published requires hard work, dedication, professionalism, resilience...with a dash of the magical ingredients: timing and luck.

This is my time.

Lyx--(FWIW, I'm not a complete bastard. I wanted to qualify that last line with "hopefully", but the universe would sense such a weakness and pounce.) :D

Bingo. You can't control what agents, or editors, or publishers, will do -- if your goal depends on them, you're setting yourself up for failure, especially with only thirty days allowed. This industry moves slooooooowly for all but a very very shiny few. ;)

So, good luck, but don't be discouraged if you don't accomplish this goal. In my experience, it's not bursts of enthusiasm and hyperactivity that win the race, it's perseverence.

Welp...21 queries sent. 14 form rejects. 1 50-pg partial. 6 no responses yet. Time to eat crow? Almost.

Don't get it; I'm doing everything right, according to the rules. Hemingway's out is looking wonderful these days.

Just kidding; don't even have a gun.

Don't get it, though. I just don't.

Lyx--who's ass is full of welts via the universe.

Cheering you all on!
30 days is 1/3 the length of the average full request wait (1/6 of mine). Not to mention the time you have to wait on a query before that. It would have been very lucky to get an agent so fast. But it was an interesting goal :D
