Hello, I just joined the forum - well, yesterday, but security measures here are tight! I am working on my first novel, my first book of any kind in fact. I've been writing for a few years in my spare time, but have decided to go at it head on since I had this idea for a thriller, which, according to my agent is a "literary thriller", although I would have called it a "psychological thriller", but what I do know, he's a hell of an agent and really liked the first ten chapters. I'm aiming for twenty chapters as that seems the sort of length the novels that inspired me are (e.g. The Talented Mr Ripley). I am just about to start work again on Chapter 14. Softly, softly catchee monkee, as they say. Inspiration is a lot more elusive than that damned monkey. Anyway, here I am, hello, and I do occasionally blog about the novel at My Name Is Harry Greene, so called as the novel is provisionally titled The Making Of Harry Greene and I want to write three of them about this character.
Rgds,
Alex

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Hi there Alex, and welcome to the Cooler. I seem to get the best inspiration while being at work... (this probably means my job is not very demanding) and I even have the time to write out a couple of chapters a week.

Welcome to the Absolute Write Water Cooler!

You may want to target a word count rather than a chapter count. From what I hear in the publishing world, 100k words is a good target for a full-length novel.

Plenty of advice is available all over this site; including Read & Critique, research, etc. Hope we can help!
