I don't know if this belongs here, or if I even belong here, but I've been curious about something for a while now, and thought you brilliant folks might help me.

My son (11) wrote a poem for a competition. It's an accrostic poem (probably spelled wrong), so that each line begins with a letter, and the beginning letters, when read down the page, make a statement.

He wants to set apart the beginning letters - his idea was to make them into blocks with fancy script inside - and then just type the rest of the line in regular font of some type.

Can this be done in Word 2007? Can it be done, period? I know I've seen books with a big fancy letter at the beginning of each chapter, but I never knew how it was accomplished.

Okay - that's all. I'm just so inexperienced and can barely figure out word art, so I don't know how to begin.

Thanks so much for any response. Even if it's a "no, can't be done."

Oh. My. Goodness.

I never had any idea I could do all that stuff with my little laptop. Of course, I'll forget 99.9% of it by 8:30, but it was fun while it lasted!

Thank you so much, Medievalist. I can't tell you how exciting this is.

Well, thanks for that, but you have no idea how stressed I become at facing this monster called technology. Trying to help my son build a blog, and can't figure out how to get any of the pictures he finds to fit into the header. It's soooo frustrating!

Again, I really appreciate your help. That was a very fun tutorial and I got every question on the test correct. Of course, it was a very short test.

I also suggest Serif software's PhotoPlus. Their free version rocks.
