Okay, so, my yahoo account has been hacked (although god knows how because I'm a) careful b) have anti virus and c) changed my password not too long ago.

Problem is, the spam went to...my sent list.

Not my contacts list - everybody I've ever sent anything to.

Yeah.

All those people I'm trying to be professional to.

Does anybody know how to get it to delete list of "sent to" addresses? The only thing I can think of is deleting every message from the sent folder.

Thanks.

If you can still get into the account, change your password and all your security questions. Report it to yahoo if they were not the ones that notified you.

Unfortunetly, once an email was sent you can't recall it. Best thing to do is email those that the spam when to, explained you were hacked and appoligize.

AFAIK you can only delete the sent emails. Does yahoo automatically add sent address to your contacts? You may want to turn that off, if so and add them manually.

FWIW, one of my yahoo account was hacked quite recently, making it all of my yahoo accounts now having been hacked.

I contacted some individuals apologizing for the bother, especially those who are not computer savvy enough to realize I hadn't actually sent the ad link. I did not contact businesses. Several people who conduct business via email routinely tell me that hacked email, often but not limited to spam sent from a legitimate email of someone they deal with, is now a common occurrence and they don't worry about it.

Maryn, thinking this is just a fact of life nowadays

I had a yahoo account hacked as well. As Maryn said, most who deal with email understands that it happens sometimes.

Other people, like my parents, were legitimately wondering why I would send them a link for discounted sexual enhancement drugs, lol.

Thanks guys.

I just wish I knew how the f***kers had done it. Stress levels are also not being helped by the fact my internet is up and down like a successful prostitute's underwear. The thing I mind most is that the list of who it was sent to was visible to those who received it. I don't want my Dad's mate knowing I email so-and-so at Really Great Literary Agency. Still, if it's the worst thing which happens today, it will have been a good day.

Tirjasdyn, thanks for the tip about the security questions - I hadn't thought to change those. It definitely wasn't sent to my contacts list - it was sent to everybody I've sent emails to (all my sent emails are saved).

Have any of you had problems with subsequent emails sent from the account getting auto-assigned to spam folders?

They probably just used a dictionary attack, if you have any recognizable words in your password. Or simply only used letters, or only used numbers. That's how someone got into my Gmail account a year or so ago. I changed the password on it to something much stronger. Also, when you answer the security questions, don't actually put in real information as your answers because most of that information is easily obtainable courtesy of the internet.

Yeah don't do this If you can't remembur the stuff you made up.

So many loose their accounts by doing that. And make sure its not against the tos to make stuff up so yahoo doesn't take away your accout.
