I just got a threat alert from AVG in the Roundtable. This is the second time I've gotten this alert in that section.

Anyone have any idea why I'm getting this alert on AW of all places?

You probably want to run a full scan yourself.

I know there have been a few members getting hit lately (myself included) but I'm not sure they were from here. Mine didn't say, or if it did I didn't notice. Back up everything just in case!!

I suspect it's a problem with something in your browser cache, rather than on AW.

That said, sometimes anti-virus/anti-malware apps have problems with the Google ads on AW. It isn't malware, but sometimes scanning software is a little too sensitive.

The server is clean.

Threat alerts from AVG just now when I opened AW and for the last 4-5 days. First happened in Novels, an Uncle Jm thread. Trojan generic is what it's labeled as by AVG. The Java platform icon always shows up first at the bottom of my screen prior to the AVG warns

I just had to reformat my computer from a trojan I picked up off the ads on Yahoo! (of all places), but they didn't trigger until I was on another page. When I did a restore, back a month, I still had the same trojan infecting the system and that's when it totaled my OS. Not fun.

Ad blockers are a really good idea. Can anyone recommend some good ones?

i had a hassle sunday morning with a trojan --at least that is what the tech person called it. i picked up a mcaffee alert while on aw. then my mcaffee went missing and was replaced by a win 7 tag telling me i had a virus and needed to click on the tag for a scan. fortunately i recognized the tag as a fake that had done some damage to my school system's computers a year ago. everytime i tried to go somewhere i ran into that tag demanding that i click it. i called tech and they got rid of it. the tech said that it wasn't aw but getting to aw that brought the trojan in. i don't understand these things--just telling you what the tech said. she installed an ad blocker called super something. it's on my home computer. i'm not very nuts and bolts bright so i carry a lot of tech protection--ss

IMHO Java should always be disabled. [not Javascript, because forums are heck without it] If you use Java for something, like chat, maintain a dedicated browser with Java enabled and use that browser only for that purpose. There are a number of Firefox variants around that run independently of FF proper; I like PaleMoon.

All web browsers need ad blockers! :e2woo:

*scratches head* How does everybody pick up all this malstuff?
