Maybe you need to ask MC2 if they want their story told?

Perhaps more important is why you are telling the tale. You certainly don't have to answer that question here, btw.

Good luck

I would have done that before I even started to write if I could have for reasons too complicated to get into. I am quite sure she would be encouraging me with publishing. She's more a secondary character, but because of her impact on the parts she isn't in, I called her MC2. My dilemma is with myself, I guess.

I might have mentioned the whys in other threads earlier, but I don't want to get into it in part of the forum that isn't password protected.

I can't actually answer the question But this is what I think.Memoirs should be a faithful account. If a person, that is Central to memoir and can't be left out, would be endangered by the memoir and the damage endured would be unacceptable to the writer .The memoir can't be puplished .

So I guess the question I'm wrestling with is can I satisfy both my passion for my memoir and protect those I love from being collateral damage.

If you're not sure, then the answer is no.

If you have the ability to contact MC2, maybe as soon as you get an Advance Reading Copy or Uncorrected Proof of your book you could send a copy to MC2, as a "heads up" that the book is about to come out.

You say you have changed the names, location etc (and how about changing the dates a couple of years earlier/later?) Why not publish it under a pseudonym, adding another layer of defences against anyone ferreting out the true identities? Use the 'true' version merely as your springboard, making fiction out of the material you already have.
You say you cannot reach the character -perhaps the trouble-makers can't find them either.
Plus, as we all know, not everyone buys or reads our books! You can always discuss this further when you meet your agent in the future.

The funny thing about your suggestion if that I would probably get feedback saying the story was implausible and would never happen in real life.

I wonder if I could change my race from white to something else..

Thanks again for the help everyone. I'm going to try to get this thread deleted because I'm not comfortable with it being in a place not password protected.
