full manuscript request

Hi everybody,

Just wondering: After sending a (requested) full manuscript to an agent, what's the shortest amount of time you heard back from him/her before receiving a yes answer? Also, did the yes come by means of a telephone call or an email?

Four months, by phone. Unfortunatly I was out at the time so she shot me an email as well.

Three days

Agent received manuscript on Friday afternoon. He phoned up on Monday morning with an offer of representation.

Something less than two weeks, or roughly a week after she received it. Phone call saying she wanted to handle the novel.

But I've known writers who had to wait six months or more to hear a yes.

eight months and zippo. not even a response to my inquiries, which just seems rude. i'm assuming it's a no, but still it would be nice to be told.

Usually, a yes is a phone call, a no is a letter or a mail. A couple of days for the yes, up to three weeks for the no.

The agent I sent mine to said I'd hear back in December. Since she's been prompt and professional (and is an AAR member), I believe she'll keep her word.

She probably will, but don't hold it against her if she doesn't. A hundred things can happen to slow an agent down. Sometimes life intrudes on the best of intentions.
