I'm having a hard time with this. The owner keeps calling after I've brushed him off, saying he has a job for me.

When I first contacted him from his advertisement, he asked for clips of my reviews. I showed him some from my blog. He still wanted more so I reached out and scouted for more.

Then he said he wanted to see some that were more in-depth. By that time, I was kind of tired of the game and checked out the magazine online.

There are a few reports at Writer's Weekly that a couple of writers who were owed money weren't paid, but that was back in 2004.

There is a very interesting report where I found this: http://www.ripoffreport.com/tv-adve...st-own/consumers-digest-owner-randy-384w8.htm

When I saw this, I just flat out didn't respond to the guy. I figured giving him the brush off would be good enough, because I simply wasn't sure I could hold back that I found this and I highly disapproved. The magazine's website is true, doesn't have a subscription method. It may be a local thing, but all the information I am finding is pointing to the Rip Off Report thing being true.

But now this guy has called three times, emailed me several times, promising me that he has a job for me and wants me to call him back.

The pay is pretty good, and I'm tempted by it, but I would like more information if anyone here has worked for them in the past. I was willing to shake it off, but I'm not sure.

My question is, has anyone worked for them? What was it like, and were you paid? Did it seem all on the up and up?

I have not worked for him, but here is my suggestion: Let him know that you are interested in the job, but you have heard reports from other writers that he may be behind in payments. Let him know that it is nothing personal and you are sure he is an up-front and honest guy, but that you have been burned in the past (even if you haven't) and that you now have a firm and immoveable policy about getting 50% of your payment up front if you have heard even the slightest whisper of a market that is behind in payments.

That will either clue him in or scare him off. Good luck.
