Can someone help me please...

I have this stupid virus that redirects me to a different page all the time, I also can't download or run anything. I downloaded a malware bytes program on a different computer and saved it to disk and then ran it but it said it couldn't find any problems.

Any ideas?

Some of those can be difficult to remove.

If scanning using one of the anti-malware programs doesn't work, I'd suggest downloading and running HijackThis and then posting the log file on the Malware Removal website. MR is free and the people there work very hard to help you get rid of any malware on your computer. Links below.

http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ (just run it and save a log file)

What browser? The last redirect I met with turned out to be a bogus Firefox "add-on" that got installed with a legit one.

I'd also suggest deleting all your cookies.

There are a couple of injection exploits that perform re-directs via cookies.

Thakns for the answers

It is both firefox and IE I got completely lost on the forum that was trying to help me

I think it might be gone now but I still live in fear, I had to change a setting that made my IP address not set or something I am not sure...

You may want to check your wireless router. Many people install them and leave the default username and password in place. This allows hackers to hijack your router and redirect every attempt you make to reach a website to their site. They then either redirect you to a malware site, or sometimes allow you to reach the site you wanted. Unfortunately, they are able to read what you've sent. If you ordered a book from Amazon, they will read your credit card information and then you're cooked.

You can check this by finding the IP address set in your router. If it's not your computer's IP address, then you've been hacked. First thing to do, is reset your router, then change the password. The instructions should be in your router manual.

Argh! I had one of these and it was a pain to remove. People who have the time to sit and write these things seriously need to get a grip.

I recommend that you download Spybot Search & Destroy. Just google it, it's usually the first result. Run the download and go through the setup process. When you've got the software sorted and installed, perform a scan.

On the note that you can't download things, try downloading some anti-virus software from another computer and install it to an external hard drive, or USB flash drive.

These virus's can be deadly so don't leave it too long. Back-up your most important documents to be safe. Don't go searching through google for anti-malware software because there's a pretty well-known virus lurking about which goes by a similar name.

I hope you get your problem sorted soon. OH and by the way, if you know the name of the virus you can search your computer for it, try searching the registry: Start>Run>Regedit. If you can't delete the file, but know the location then run command prompt: Start>Run>CMD and then type 'CD', from there type your file location eg:

cd c: \ Documents and Settings \ My Documents \ deadly file

When you've entered the location of the file type in 'del', that should force delete the virus.

When you've done that I recommend that you go download some anti-virus software immediately, something that is known, like AVG (I use that). Avast is also good, but the voice is sooo annoying when the software updates.

Hope you get your computer sorted soon, good luck!
