Has anyone read this one, by Dennis Lehane? I'm not normally a big historical fiction reader, but I'm a Lehane fan and just finished this -- set in Boston during 1919 (my review here).

I enjoyed it immensely, but I'd be interested in the take of folks who are more immersed in the genre than I am.

I'm not a Dennis Lehane fan, based only on the movies made from other novels, but I loved this book. I read your review and can't disagree with a thing you said in terms of small criticisms, but what I enjoyed most was that I felt steeped in that era and that it was a big "meaty" read. I hope his next novel tackles something with similar scope and depth.

I agree with Phyllo....loved the detail and depth of the representation of contemporary Boston and events. The plot? Meh, not so much. Interesting characters who for the most part didn't do terribly interesting things.

I absolutely loved this book. I write historical fiction, and I was blown away, pretty much from the first page. His characterizations are fantastic.

It takes place in my favorite time period too. WWI era had so many interesting (yet awful!) things happening. I'd love to see them film this one.
