So, they're making a new NW game.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwinter_(video_game)

I remember the time this thing is taking place being mentioned in R.A.'s latest book.

I gotta say I have a problem with this:
-- "development by Cryptic Studios" Not a fan of them. They've made 3 MMO's, none of them were all that great.

I'm also not terribly fond of co-op games, so there had better be a way for me to solo.

On a slightly related note:
NWN Plat, or NWN Diamond, which has more content? Wikipedia says Diamond, but I;m not sure.

Never played Neverwinter but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like co-op.

I need PvP (or single player campaigns) because I'm a control freak and so I can decimate n00bs.

:p

Out of every game I played NWN had the most replay value. I've played so many mods for both NWN & NWN2. I think co-op is a bad idea. DDO tried it and had to readjust the game to support solo play. The only redeeming factor is, RA is involved. They should just create a NWN4 or create more expansions.

NWN Diamond is in fact the one with more content, it came out some time after the Platinum release, and includes some more DLC. Well worth the purchase, I think. I've been meaning to play some again. There were a few really great persistent worlds I enjoyed playing in.

Should I play NWN or NWN 2?
Also, is there a big central site for NWN mods? Like the DA/Fallout nexus?

I loved NWN and thought NWN2 was completely unplayable. So YMMV. I think the Diamond Collection is the big collection of all the add ons? but I think it also got really bad reviews on retailer sites because the keycode is wacky and was making the game unplayable. So just double-check that before you buy.

Cryptic got Neverwinter? Sigh.

City of Heroes was a pretty good game (and got a lot better when it was bought by NCSoft). Champions and Star Trek Online both got shoved out the door way too damn early. Champions is on life support and still having issues despite going Free.

Needless to say, I'm not anticipating a Neverwinter from Cryptic.

I don't like the idea of co-op play, regardless of developer.
I do not play well with others for the most part.

So, is isometric the best way to play NWN2? It's funky in character mode, but I can't seem to get the hang of the isometric mode in this game...maybe DA:O spoiled me...

The central repository for NWN mods is the Neverwinter Vault: nwvault.ign.com . I enjoyed both NWN and NWN 2, though many people seem to prefer NWN.

NwN 2's control and camera scheme just slowly kills me as I play it...I have to regularly stop or I'd drive myself to madness trying to tolerate it.

Co-op never usually ends well with some games and I'd hate to see that happen to Neverwinter. I'm glad that they're going for a strong story-line, but I just wonder how well that story will play out.

I have yet to play NWN2 because many people told me it was a struggle to play (camera being the main issue) as well as trouble with managing the parties inventory and making sure everyone is properly equipped. I prefer the original NWN as I had a very fun time playing it and could honestly play it over and over again without ever getting bored. I also experienced no problems with the first one.

I think I'll just sit back and wait for this game to come out and see all the reviews that pour in.

Need to expand on above post. Having played all the NWN games and their expansions, it is my opinion that NWN2: MotB took a dump on them all, though it was not a perfect game by any means. I'm pretty sure it requires that you also get NWN2, but that may be worth it if you like story-driven RPGs.

Apparently, they're making the other characters computer-controlled if you don't get others to play them.

I hope I can get this, if the memory/video card need isn't too great. I'm interested in seeing how Neverwinter would work as an MMORPG.

Does...that mean it's awesome on toast?

All right, the term "takes a dump on" confused me. I heard that Mask was up there with Planescape Torment.

I'll believe it when I play it, and I plan too once I finish up NWN1 and the expansion packs.

Ah, NWN...

I was hooked on the first one. I played it through once as a wizard, had a really hard time with the boss (can't rest in that final section, so I had to be really careful with my spell usage, and of course had to stock up on huge amounts of Heal potions) and then after I finished it, instantly created a fighter character and played through again.

Since then, I've played both NWN1 expansions. I liked them, for the most part... But the boss at the end of the second expansion (the devil demon guy) kicked my arse so many times that I just gave up and never got to see the final cinematic storyline part (assuming there is one). Seriously, I'd be knocking him about, getting him down to Seriously Wounded or whatever it was called, and then BAM! One hit kill. It was so frustrating.

And then I bought NWN2, and had to wait 6 months before I even had a computer that I could play it on. My computer had a shithot video card, but no DVD drive. Mum's computer had a DVD drive, but a crappy old video card (she doesn't game).

Anyway, I patiently waited 6 months, then launched into it. I got as far as when the githyanki showed up, then stopped playing for some reason.

And now recently my computer died. I had my game files backed up, so I should really be able to just pick up where I left off... but I still haven't had the time or inclination to pick the game back up.

It's a lovely game, I think, and I liked having a party of 4 or 5 or whatever number it was. I found equipping my party was easy enough, but not once did I control every character in a fight (like, the pause, command, unpause, wait for action, pause, command, etc.) route that the game suggested.

I found the cameras on both NWN 1 and 2 were a little dicky sometimes... depending on what you were trying to do. But I still found them quite playable.

My main grievance with NWN 1 and 2 and all their expansions is that generally you have to have really up-to-date hardware to play them. Sure, it makes for better graphics and generally gameplay (not always) but it's expensive!

I still haven't played the expansion for NWN2. I believe I have one of the expansions in a drawer somewhere, but I haven't even finished NWN2 itself yet... So yeah, I can't justify starting the expansion yet.

:)

...

I also think co-op and no single player would spell doom for NeverWinter. I'm a total control freak when it comes to games. I don't want to have to yell at some living person, "No, use that spell!"

Oh, okay.

Meanwhile, I reinstalled NWN2, and decided to play through from the start instead of picking up from where I left off. It's kind of fun, but a little slow I think.

And I'm having troubles with my sound... I have no problems with any other sound on this computer, but in NWN2 it's going all glitchy and jumpy. *sigh*

I'm hesitant to compare anything to PS:T, but it's definitely along the same lines.

I think Black Isle/Obsidian is allowed to rip itself off.

I really liked the tiefling girl in NWN2. But then again, I've never played Planescape: Torment. (please don't hate me).
