I am attending a small local writers conference and am wondering what should I take? I'm hoping to make some contacts. I know business cards were discussed...but should I have a couple copies of partials? Full manuscript? I'm very excited and I don't want to get there and realize I'm not prepared.

Also, on the business card issue...is it okay to make them yourself or does that look too cheap? I really don't want to go to a printer when I'll probably only need a couple!

There are great do-it-yourself buisiness cards nowadays. I used Avery Clean Edge business cards and printed them myself. They look pretty good.

Personally, I wouldn't bring partials. I'd rather be able to write a nice cover letter and mail the package to them when they're relaxed back at home than have them lose pages 3 and 6 of my MS at JFK. But some think otherwise.

Take partials. If only one person reads them, it's worth it. I took 5 partials with me last weekend and gave them all away.

Practice your answer to: What's your book about?

Make sure you can answer in less than 15 seconds.

Good Luck.

Is it okay to call Agency X to ask if the agency or a particular agent you are interested in at that agency attend conferences? And if yes, which ones? Thanks.
