I am a hand-writer who has a hard time typing up my work. I'm a fast typer, at least moderately (about 50 - 60 wpm) but when I have to read something, it takes me forever to get it down. I keep losing my place and then having to read a bunch to figure out where I was.

Does any one know of a place where I could rent or cheaply buy voice recognition software? VRS is a little machine where you talk into a microphone and it types up what you are saying.

Also, can anyone who uses VRS tell me of some good brands to look for?

Thanks!

If you're using Windows 7, it comes with voice recognition software built in. It's called Speech Recognition. You'll need a headset with a good microphone. It works about as good as Dragon Natural 10.

I write in longhand, as well, and I'm not a great typist, either. But I don't try to just type something into the computer. This is when I do my second, clean up draft, so I go slow, and once it is in the computer, it's ready to go.

I've been playing around with the Win7 Speech Recognition and it's pretty good. I don't know if I could do a lot of writing that way, but it works well and is easy to use.

Lately I've been using it to make grocery lits and jot down recipes.
