We've all got a favourite number or two that seem to fly under the radar of taste, popularity and time.

I'm thinking Diane Parrish while I type, but I'm posting a link to Hot Chocolate, and this underrated classic.

Any others?

Hey cmi,

I won't follow the Ryan Adams link. Not out of taste or anything, but because it reminds me of a girl I used to know. And if I think about that for too long, I'll end up back on the fags.

Which, this being an international board, could cause some delightful misunderstanding.

Ciggeretts, right?

PS, please don't. I have a hatred for ciggerette.

Very understandable. He's got a song, "Dear Chicago", also reminds me of one of my Exes. I'm man enough to admit it brings a tear to my eye more often then not.

Hey Vince,

Like the Paul Stanley avatar.

And yes there was a delightful misunderstanding. I'm now a non-smoker.

I tried being bisexual but I just got twice as many knock-backs.:D

And cmi,

There's nothing worse than a song reminding you about an ex.

In my case it's a Band number. As it's coming up to the anniversary of me being dumped, I've being thinking about the tune. I may even listen to it tonight. Which may cause some wet stuff falling out my eyes.

And that's the power of music.

It hits us when we don't expect it to.

It dredges up memories, both good and bad, but somehow... comforting?

I don't know. Bittersweet mixed emotions that have to be confronted? Or just a good tune that got in the way when something happened in your life?

So answers please.

Regards

Hey Dolores,

I'm now in deep depression.

Why?

I hate the Smiffies, an ex love didn't. So we tried and we failed and we tried and we failed and we tried... and then she dumped me.:D

But this song brings back so many memories.

Which is leading me to conclude that we've all got a break-up song.

Any more?

Whacko.

Well, of COURSE she dumped you, whack. Not liking the Smiths is a perfectly acceptable reason.

Does this still get play in the old UK? It's my favorite one hit wonder ever.

The exact centre of all of existence
Anything by Evanescence. They were huge for a year or so with 1 CD and about 7 singles. Then they just disappeared.

And I still think Amy Lee is gorgeous, and a great singer.

It's poor quality, unfortunately, but the live DVD of theirs has 4 of their music videos in great quality, and you can watch them on your TV instead. I mention that DVD partly in love of Evanescence, but also because I've seen it in about 4 stores here this past year, and every copy has been about $10. Total steal. :)

I got introduced to Nantucket Sleighride way back, because it was used for the theme tune of a political show called Weekend World.

Not that I was interested in politics. So I'd watch the opening credits then turn the telly over. Not that there was much competition. We only had three TV stations in those days. And the Test Card was usually being shown on two of them.

Hey, what about Ten City and That's The Way Love Is?

My body even moves in a semblance of dancing when I hear that one!

A world away from the buggers that ditched us:

Hello, This is Jonie - Paul Evans.

Absolute classic. Sound effects and everything.

And yes, it's the same Paul Evans who gave us Seven Little Girls. Which is not a great tune criminally forgotten!:D

Another one I heard today was:

Pretend - Alvin Stardust.

And if you've never connected Alvin to Stardust, go immediately to yoytube and do so.

He was the scariest SOB in the world in 1974. He even wore rings on his gloved fingers for God's sake!

And who did we Brits pick as the spokesman for a road safety campaign aimed at kiddies?

You must be out of your tiny little minds, Alvin said to kids running onto the road.

But who wouldn't run away from a man clad head to toe in leather? With rings on his fingers?

It could have been worse, I suppose. They might have had Gary Glitter demonstrating the Kiss of Life!:D

Hey Shapes, et al,

I actually paid hard cash to buy Airport as a single. It really is a tune and a half!

But what about another Edinburgh band?

This one never made the Top 40, Shape of Things To Come by The Headboys.

Jesus, it should have got to number 1!

Here's a link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHrClfKM7W8

I remember seeing them doing it on Crackerjack! (Crackerjack!)

But coming more up to date...

Anybody remember 10 City? Or 10 Sharp?

Or what about this wonder.

Anyone who listened to Gary Davies on Radio 1 will remember this, Swansway...

And here's Rob, Rick and Meggie, (introduced by Gary Davies haha).

Jesus, I hope the links work!

Jeez. And sheesh.

I honestly recognised "Jeane" just by the lyric. And I think that Headboys single is lurking somewhere in my father's vinyl collection in storage in the UK.

How about the Only Ones? A lot of people have made a very good living stealing from Peter Perrett.

Someone Who Cares
No Peace For The Wicked

And then there's this. Kenickie. I saw them live twice in Bristol. Two of the best nights of my life.

Hey Shapesphere,

I've never heard of Ariel Pink, but that's a nice number. It sounds like something from the 80s, like China Crisis, but they're a modern band right?

And speaking of China Crisis...
