.... new guy if you didn't know.

I'd like to say hi & get all the getting to know you stuff out of the way.

I'd never written a word in my life until last November. I got a new job that has me on the road half the week. I spend my time listening to audio book while I drive, reading book in airports & restaurants and I've taken to writing in my hotel room. I have one "book" at 45,000 words and I'm 2/3 done. I gave that one a break and started a new one that I'm already 20,000 words into in 3 short weeks.

I showed some to a couple friends and they think it's "amazing." but they are my friends.

I guess I just want to know if I am wasting my time or not.

I know it's not a waste of time if I like doing it (and I absolutely do!) but writing for myself is only so fulfilling.

So I looked around the web & this site seems have the least amount of trolls & jerks as far as writing sites go.

Take a wander around the various forums, there's lots to see and lots to learn, and even some fun threads too. Come along and pop on over to the Traditional Irish Pub (at the top of the Newbie forum) and say hi, there's plenty of friendly faces that you can chat with and lots of banter. There's also the Question of the Day threads at the top of the Newbie forum where you can answer random questions.

Don't forget to read the newbie guide, and if you want to know what all the buttons mean check out this thread.

A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. And to answer your question on if you are wasting your time with this writing business. Well, that depends on how serious you are taking your writing.

You might want to visit the learn writing with Uncle Jim forum, or the treads about Character and world building, grammar construction, etc, etc, etc. What they taught us in HS ain't worth a shit...

This is a great group, enjoy.

Hey Matt, Whether your work is really good or not it should not matter. If you enjoy it that is all what counts. Although my husband's book is selling, he did not care whether it did or did not. It is a great gift for our children, because it is a book on how to live life.
