Alas, I'm not going to take a sick day for it. But I may not get anything done around the house /after/ work... the game's already installed (preloaded), waiting for the release day unlock on Steam.

Because he's come to realize the gapping whole in his life, nay his VERY HEART, is the lack of Civ.
And all he needs to do is accept Sid Meyer into his life, shell out the $$, and he too can be complete when playing the latest iteration of Civ.

Absolutely none. From what I've heard, V is the best and most easily to get into.
Of course, I still say the BEST best Civilization Game is Alpha Centauri.
Alpha Centauri? Pfft. Too easy, man. Though a lot of the concepts were cool.
Civ V has had only rave reviews so far. BRING IT ON!

I loved Alpha Centauri. Only game I've played where I could use terraforming as a weapon. I literally carved up their territories and turned their coastal cities into islands.
Hmm--actually, now that i think about it: the entire game was pretty awesome, just a touch on the easy side.

Civ is the one game I've really gotten into, I and III, and Alpha Centauri. I broke my AC disk into bits because of the sleep it was costing me. I've got Civilization Revolution on the iPhone now, which is just evil enough to be a distraction. Why one would be so fascinated as to play each version of a single game, I don't know, but hey.
I won't buy Civ V, but I'll be interested to hear about it.

Methinks i'm agonna have to dig the game out for reals and renew my acquaintance with it.
I honestly can't remember how much more difficult i found the game the higher levels i played it at (so long ago). I do remember the first levels being ultra-easy, but my memory is vague after that, which probably means my brain tried to wipe away the haunt of getting thrashed repeatedly and incessantly.
Playing it. Love the interface. Trying to jigger the settings so it runs well.

Alas it appears that it is not being released (now? Ever?) for Mac.
I should probably feel blessed . . .
Firaxis games tend to get Mac releases later than the PC ones, so I'd imagine there'll be a Mac release sometime in 2011. (I think they've generally been ported over by Aspyr.) They also tend not to announce the Mac ports until fairly close to release.
But, of course, you can always run Boot Camp...
