Hey Brian,

I'm Rick from the Dallas area.

Are you looking for a co-writer or a critique partner, someone to bounce ideas off of and review your work?

Also, what part of Chicago are you from? I used go visit Naperville a few times a year.

Hi!

Hey, nice to meet you. Just wondering, when you say you 'are' a screenwriter, does that mean you have published something? That would be cool. I am rather new to the screenwriting hobby, and relativly young, but i would love to work with someone to develop a screenplay, even if only in editing or formulating ideas.

Alden - it's driving me crazy. i must tell you that screenwriters don't get something "published" - they get something "produced". get it right! learn the lingo ;)

Kitchen table, parked in front of the computer.
You'll need someone to edit as well.

So, you've got a few writers who are interested.

make sure you work out an agreement, put it in writing and make it legal.
Once you turn this idea and story over to your partner for all the things which you mentioned it is no longer your story but OUR story and THEIR story.

Good luck to everybody and happy writing.

For us Rookies . . .

Hey Nikee,

For us rookies it's not just produced. I'd be happy with purchased, or optioned. I'm still trying to take the next step from the requested phase!

Very important point, which is why I wanted to know if he really wants a partner, or just a critique partner. I really can't have a partner on some of the stuff I'm working on.

Best to all,

Rick

Nikee evidently skips the "optioned" and "sold" steps and leaps straight to "produced" -- color me impressed! Any chance of an autographed photo?

Brian, welcome, alas I'm a hermit crab when it comes to writing, I've attempted collaborations in the past (been suckered in) but they've always led to falling outs and/or violent deaths. Good luck with whatever you're looking for.

Scripts and books

I've thought about partnering up but I think forming a small group (3 to 7?), which I've been a part of in the past, might work better for fine tuning a story idea, writing it or doing the final draft. Maybe a few of us could do this? Maybe use Yahoo Messenger to have group meetings? Just a thought.

I would also like to know what books you've read on story and the craft of screenwriting. I wouldn't want to work with anyone who hasn't read some of the best ones. It could be a requirement for the group? Another thought.

And hey, rickdemille! I'm in Dallas. Maybe we could procrastinate together sometime via MSN Instant Messenger?

I divide my time between Screenwriting, painting in oils, and now filmmaking (shorts for now). I'm 52, male, grumpy and fat, but I'm losing weight (really, lol). Can't do meetings if you have your own gravitational electro magnatic field, which is why we can't meet yet. <big old Texas grin>

Back to the main character... I hope you find a good partner or a good small group.

Y'all be good and write like crazy people!

Hey Storyman,

Nice to hear from you! What part of Dallas are you in? I'm up in Little Elm, just North of Frisco / The Colony - I work in McKinney.

Have you heard of Dallas Screenwriters (DSA)? I'm a member but haven't been able to get a critique group going. As far as books, I've read all of the big ones, and some of the dorky ones as well.

I have my wings clipped right now, we're hosting a family that was evacuated from New Orleans and I don't feel right about leaving my wife alone too long. There is a course coming up next month on screenwriting in Richardson, instructed by a mulit-produced screenwriter. It will be my first formal course.

As far as Bio, I'm days away from 54, a libra, who enjoys quiet walks on the beach and shooting my assault rifle (bad habit I picked up in the Marine Corps).

If you want to talk about critique sessions or mutual admiration, let me know and we can PM each other with details.

Nice hearing from you!

Rick
