I'm curious if there are any horror e-publishers that offer fair royalties and don't require romance or erotica with the horror?
I've checked Duotrope and all the publishers they listed were either flagged by 'predators and editors' or had very low royalty rates.
Also are horror novels popular selling e-books?
Thanks.

I presume you've already checked out all the Market threads in the Horror forum?

My horror e-book (see sig!) was published earlier this year by Lyrical Press.

It really doesn't have much sex in it, and could not really be considered a romance. A bit of snogging. A 'before' and 'after' scene. That's about it.

So although a lot of the e-publishers take a lot of erotica - it seems to sell - there are those out there who will take others.

I did look through them, admittedly more of a glance but I did look. Most of them seemed to relate to magazines, short stories for websites and many had closed down.
Also this was a two part question so I thought it would be acceptable.

Thanks Shara, I had looked over Lyrical but they had seemed to be almost wholly with the Romance. I'll give them a much closer second look for my non-romance novellas.

Damnation Press is mentioned is the Bewares and Background Press. (Grumbles...) There's also Blood Moon Publishing (part of Double Dragon I think), but you need to do a good check on Blood Moon because I don't if it's covered in the bewares and Background thread.

I'm looking for horror too. I'd try the likes of Lyrical, though, just in case!

Carina Press is looking for other genres other than romance. Although it's under the HQN umbrella, I think HQ might be trying to move into the market (thats not fact just MHO) Of course they've gottne lots of rom/rom elements stuff, simply because romance writers were aware of this move.

"We expect to publish a majority of romance and erotic romance but are also very interested in women’s fiction, science fiction, fantasy, futuristic, mystery, thrillers, horror, and niches. If you have something new and fresh we would be happy to read your story!"

I believe is the editor Laura Anne Gilma is looking for horror

So look at Lyrical and Carina Press.
Thanks everyone. Although I may not need an e-publisher the horror novella seems likely to become a novel, its nice to know about these.
And thanks for the name Jodie it may come in useful.
Cheers

The other one to check is Drollerie Press, though they require a supernatural element (their niche is Magical Realism).
