Same Psychosis...different day.
I'm working on a Sci Fi series. I've finished the first book, I'm re-writing the second book, I've drafted the third book, and I've outlined books 4 thru 10 (I've been working on this since, uh, since before the internet, it has only now begun to come together the way I want it.)

In the course of writing, re writing , etc, I have developed a list of characters, a list of planets, and a list of star-systems. I've also indexed people, places and things. (Mostly just the 'proper nouns') and I've mapped one of the planets.

So. Should I include this stuff in the manuscripts?

Also, I had one suggestion that I make a star map of the various systems so people don't get confused about going from here to there. Aside from the problems in making a 3-d map and turning it into 2-d, wouldn't that be a little anal?

And Finally: This whole project seemed ambitious when I started it. Anyone interested in a long term project which will involve reading, handholding, advice, and a bit of editing before it is finally finished?

Is there a god out there?

As I understand it, no, not at the submission stage. Something you might mention to an editor or agent once they're interested. Judging from stuff in print, maps might go in the book, but much of the material belongs on your website.

In the submission stage you can suggest it but I wouldn't include it outright. I say ultimately if it's necessary for the book do it. Heck, you can find maps in Lord of the Rings and there's appendices in 1984.
