Hi, I'm looking for a beta to review my fantasy novel. It's similar to Jennifer Fallon's Hythrun Chronicles or maybe Anne Bishop's Dark Jewels (without the crazy pile of sex!). It's currently at 123k, which I know is long, but I'm slowly whittling it down.

I would prefer someone that normally reads epic fantasy and is a fast reader. First and foremost I need critique on passive writing. I admit I'm addicted to the word "was". Also, any story/plot inconsistencies or anything that seems superfluous and would help me trim my word count. I've read it so many times but I see what I intended to write, not what's actually there sometimes and another pair of eyes would be nice. This is actually a final draft so hopefully there won't be too many errors to point out but I'm more than fine with it if you find them.

I'm looking to build a working relationship with a beta and want to find someone who fits well with me so obviously we could start with just a couple of chapters. I am also more than open to beta'ing in return if that's something you want. I'm not experienced at critiquing but I'll do whatever I can to help.

Please PM if you're interested. I look forward to hearing from you!

L

I might be interested in doing a trial swap with you of 5 pages.
see here to see if you think we might need be a good match:

I need general feedback at this point (what's rushed, what drags, what doesn't make sense, general impressions, etc) but I'm better on the technical front. I could definitely help you improve was usage where it needs to be improved and probably help you cut down those words too. Those are things I'm good at.
