I'm pleased to offer, to you AWers, poets and writers of all stripes,

The 2010 Absolute Write Spring Poetry Contest

Now, I know how poets hate rules, so just think of the rest of this post as "Answers to Your Questions", and it'll all be daisies and joyrides. If you can think of any more questions, just post them here!

I look forward to some delightful poems, lively discussion, and a bubbly camaraderie around the place - frisbees in the sun, sand castles, and lemonade.

Enjoy!

w00t? Kevin, you are SOOOO 2007, it's embarrassing.

Other than Kevin's embarrassing ejaculation of outdated internet slang, I am SO happy to see this post.

Good news/bad news/good news.

Good news because: contests are fun and stimulate interest in the Poetry forum (I hope) and make for enjoyable reading and enable us all to appreciate the wealth of talent we have here

Bad news because: I don't have a suitable poem ready...

Good news because : yet

I'm willing to listen to reason on this one. A newcomer entered our Inauguration Poem contest, won, and has never returned. Contests often get newbies who enter, don't vote, and disappear. That's disappointing.

But the point of a contest is to get things going and to raise interest. So I'm more than happy to reconsider this restriction with you. Just write me, please... And welcome!

If we strike him from the record, will I place? In that case we should do so. Otherwise, I guess it's ok to keep it as it is.

Poet... for the record, there is no "DST" in the U.S.

You probably meant "EDT" or "PDT" most likely. Eastern Daylight Time, or Pacific Daylight Time. There's a 3 hour difference between those two, though, so you should clarify.

Updates:
-- I read about a book I'd like to donate; I'm hoping to see the author speak later this week. If I can find a copy of it, I'll buy it. Otherwise, I'll find something else spesh.

-- There are now ELEVEN entries.

-- The noble CDSinex has offered another excellent prize. Since we already have six, I've suggested perhaps we have another contest very soon, with that prize and another from me on the table.

How's everyone else coming with those poems?
