I'm pleased to offer, to you AWers, poets and writers of all stripes,
The 2010 Absolute Write Spring Poetry Contest
Now, I know how poets hate rules, so just think of the rest of this post as "Answers to Your Questions", and it'll all be daisies and joyrides. If you can think of any more questions, just post them here!
I look forward to some delightful poems, lively discussion, and a bubbly camaraderie around the place - frisbees in the sun, sand castles, and lemonade.

- Poems should somehow reflect Spring
- One entry per AW member
- Four hundred words or fewer, one hundred lines or fewer
- Entries will be displayed in a single thread in the Poetry Chapbook sub-forum, in an order determined at random
- Entries will be displayed in Verdana font, size 2
- Poem titles will be displayed in the post subject line, with an entry number
- Submit poems by PM (private message - NOT EMAIL) to poetinahat, with subject line "ENTRY - SPRING POETRY CONTEST". The text should include the poem title and the poem - nothing else.
- I'll reply to acknowledge that I've received your entry, but allow a day or so; I'm on the other side of the world.
- Please ensure your entry appears exactly as you want it to - with any indentation, italics, etc. - before submitting. Click "Preview message" before sending, or to send it to yourself first.
- Once poems are submitted, no changes or substitutions will be accepted
- Entrants must submit a complete vote (first, second, and third place votes) in order for their poems to be considered for prizes.
- Entry deadline: 11:59PM US DST, Wednesday, May 19.
- Entries will be posted by 11:59PM US DST, Thursday, May 20.
- Voting will open 12:01AM US DST, Saturday, May 22.
- Voting will close 11:59PM US DST, Saturday, May 29.
- Winners will be announced as soon after that as possible; please allow two days.
- The contest is open to all active AW members who have registered on or before May 4, 2010 and are in good standing.

- Please read all the poems before voting.
- One vote allowed per AW member.
- Entrants can vote for their own poems.
- To vote, please send a PM (private message) to poetinahat, with subject line "VOTE - SPRING POETRY CONTEST".
- Please indicate three votes - first place, second place, and third place. These must be three different poems.
- Please indicate the poem number and title. For example:
- First - #6, "Hey, Fever!"
- Second - #2, "Stealing First Base"
- Third - #12, "Daffodil Dog Days"
- First/second/third place votes count 3/2/1 points respectively.
- Winner is determined by accumulated points.
- Tiebreakers:
- Number of first-place votes
- Number of second-place votes
- Duelling kazoos and applause-o-meter
