I hope it's ok to leave this in our little section of the world - I see other forums with little rah-rah sections. Perhaps we could have this little spot here to support each other weekly and / or hold ourselves accountable! Then at the end of the week, say how you did on your goals and why you did or didn't accomplish them, then set new goals for the following week.

I think we've all heard of how no one plans to fail, but you can fail to plan. So. How about you?! This is the first week of May. Possibilities abound.

What do you hope to get done on your S(cience) F(iction) or F(antasy) project this week? Perhaps we can state our goals for the week and/or pop in to support our fellow writers in their goals.

I'm editing my NaNo Spiritcaster. I hope to get through all my beta comments this week and start brainstorming for a possible query letter **shudders**

2. Finish Burning Eden outtake for the blog
3. Start making solider notes for the SSSS (or are there five Ss?)

I. Continue working on my newest WIP, which currently does not have a proper name. I suppose for now I can just call it Beatrix after the MC.

II. Begin editing at least one of the numerous short stories I've had kicking around for the last...oh, two years or so. I'd like to send at least one out this year, if only to continue my tradition of selling one story every year hah.

Get another short started, at least, and get the current one whipped into beta shape.

Did anyone see Charlaine Harris' advise to writers in the Sunday New York Times Magazine (5/2/10)?

"For any writers at all, read everything you can and then put your butt in the chair and write. That's all there is to it."

Good, timeless advice :) Butt-in-chair was one of the first pieces of writing advice I ever read, and it has served me well!

For my own goals:

1) Continue editing TMP through chapter 17. Bonus if I can get through chapter 18!

2) Pull the moon story from the dust heap, read through, and decide if it's salvageable.

I have roughly 2 hours alloted for writing this week. Maybe 3. I'm planning on getting at least 1500 words done on the next episode of the serial.

I have just started a new project, which is like serious and stuff - so I would like to say by Sunday I'll have written...ohhh...er...8k? That may be a little ambitious. I have a beginning and no idea where it's going.

Am also thinking about my Sekrit Santa thingy. Hope to gets some notes down.

I've switched to more content oriented goals, so it's like, get my dragon to this point in the story by this date sort of thing. So...I'd like my dragon to be attacking the artillery by the end of the week.

1,000 words/weekday. Just like always. @_@

Spent so long in the editing/submission mode recently, it's hard to shift back into production mode. I keep trying to edit while I write and it really blocks up the flow.

Read some good advice in the "Novels" subforum recently:
"Write fast" and "1st draft is for fun, 2nd draft is for craft."

I've been doing a lot better since keeping that in mind. If I stay in the flow and just keep writing instead of looking back and editing each line as I go, I feel like I'm producing poor quality, but the opposite is true. If I jog along and write the damn story, it's pretty good on the re-read. When I try to edit as I go and write a perfect first draft, the writing sounds stilted and over-wrought. (And it is)

Super Secret Society of Snapping Sharks?
Sounds Suspicious. :e2shrug:

Sorry. I actually realized what it was after I asked. Doh.

I only have one writing goal for this week:

Write one scene every day.

That's my goal. Sunday was good. But today...I'm behind. I've been avoiding it all day (don't tell the Finish the Damn Book Challenge people that I was playing on the interwebs on and off all day before writing, or they'll kick me out of the club). Gotta get to work. :gone:

Good luck, Semmie, you can do it :)

I've been too busy to do anything but read so far this week. Hopefully things will quiet down.

oh no... :)

It's the middle of the week folks. How are we doin'?!

I have not thought a single word about my "elevator pitch". Not a single brain thread has flared in that direction.

I have got through 112 pages of a much deeper beta. About to commencify more on that in... 3...2...1...

Aside from one note that needs double-checking, I am through editing Chapters 16 and 17 :D

Have not looked at the moon story yet. Perhaps tomorrow?

How's everyone else doing?
