How Long Until They Remake.....

So, in another thread (that got derailed) the subject of cool cars came up. The coolest car EVER in the history of television IMO is

Then, this got me thinking. This was such a great movie, how long until the powers that be go to the trough and remake it. I mean, they are remaking everything that isn't nailed down.

There are a lot of movies that are ripe for a remake, like Clash of the Titans, I mean, its been over 30 years so a remake seems about right.

Which got me thinking about Back to the Future. That movie came out in 1985 and so its been 25 years.

Which means there is a good chance that many of today's kids have not seen it.

Granted, I can't see them improving on perfection, I just don't know how you could remake this masterpiece. But if there is money in it, you can bet Hollywood will do it.

So, I ask you, what movies do you think are ripe for a remake?

What movies do you hope they never touch but will probably remake anyways?

Lastly, if you are under the age of 25, have you seen Back to the Future?

I'm under 25, and I've seen Back to the Future many times, and so have many of my friends. I'd guess that many people my age (19) have seen it, but going younger into high school and junior high aged teens I would not be surprised if there weren't many who had seen it.

I think I would murder someone if they ever re-made The Princess Bride. Or any of the brat pack films. Don't. Touch. Those.

If Clash of the Titans does well, perhaps we could see Jason and the Argonauts remade.

This topic makes my skin feel all itchy...

Me too, Blue. It's like talking about the funeral of a living grandparent.

I'm 19 and I pretty much grew up watching Back In The Future many, many times and a part of me died when I heard they closed down the ride in Universal Studios since that was one of the reasons I wanted to go to the US.

There should be a law saying a movie should at least be 35 years so they could remake it.

The other day I saw Angels with Dirty Faces, I can totally seen it being remade with Di Caprio as the crook and McGuire as the priest. I always said there's something of Cagney in Di Caprio.

I'm not sure its a good idea. I mean, the teenage sex comedy has evolved. Take American Pie, that movie is hilarious.

And Porkys is not 'big enough' to remake IMO, I'd venture to guess that most kids nowadays wouldn't even know it was a remake and just think it was its own movie, so in that regards, it is not going to have an 'automatic' base like Clash of the Titans.

So, if they are going to remake it, they better have a kick ass fresh modern script.

Cool car movies... Bullet, since they already remade Vanishing Point.

Other movies I would like to see, any of the Sinbad movies, especially Eye of the Tiger.

Lastly, I would love to see them re-explore the Conan stories. Problem is, no one says Krom like Arnold...

I still say that Guillermo Del Toro should redo Nightbreed.

But as I'm the ONLY FUCKING PERSON who's seen that movie and liked it, I don't think that'll happen.

But seriously, a man who believes he is a serial killer runs away to join up with an underground city of monsters, gets shot by the police, comes back to life and lives with the monsters, while his girlfriend looks for him. And also it turns out that his psychiatrist ascribes to the fucking Scarecrow method of psychology and has been in fact conditioning the main character to believe he is a serial killer.

Because IN FACT, the psychiatrist is the serial killer.

And the movie ends with a monster versus rednecks showdown, with flame throwers and machine guns and lots of ripping and tearing and so on and so forth.

The original is cheesy and did amazing things with the special effects of the time (even if they dropped the ball at the time). They also cut out 100% of the sex that was in the original novella. Boo!

So, yeah, a remake of Nightbreed by GDT (because he can take CGI and costumes and marry them to create some of the most unique and amazingly seamless creatures ever) with the sex put back in.

Also, more Shuna Sassi...who I admit was the reason I tracked down the movie.

What? She's a sexy porcupine lady...

I thought she was sexy at least <grumbles>

Spend months tracking the movie down and the reason I tracked it down was in all of two scenes. LAME!

Talk about someone owning a role-- Arnold killed it. I just can't see anyone doing it better.

I think he did that movie right after he won Mr. Olympia for the sixth consequetive time LOL, so good luck finding someone with those credentials.

Remakes should be films you can redo BETTER. Like the Count of Monte Cristo. Or The Thing.

Not that the originals were bad, but we can all agree that the new ones brought new quality to their productions.

Nightbreed is fucking awesome. In fact, just last month, I insisted someone watch it with me. I loved it from the first scene and always will.

I have the novella on my bookshelf too. And I don't keep many books.

Nightbreed was awesome.

Around that same time another Clive Barker story called Lord of Illusions came out. I didn't like it quite as well as Nightbreed, but it was still pretty darn good.

They're in the process of making another Conan movie now, due out in 2011. Ron Perlman just got cast as Conan's dad. Supposedly this version is going to be more faithful to the Robert Howard source material. Sadly (to me anyway) the new Conan movie will NOT be helmed by John Milius, the writer/director of Conan the Barbarian. Milius originally planned to do Conan as a trilogy, but he & the studio had a falling out and he wasn't involved in Conan the Destroyer. A couple of years ago he did put together a script for a sequel to CtB called King Conan, but for whatever reason the project never came together. I would kill to get my hands on that script.

Also, Hellraiser is getting a remake, also due in 2011. In 3-D. Clive Barker is supposedly involved.

I wish they'd stop remaking good movies. And If they remake Back to the Future, any of them, I don't know what I'd do. I think the Back to the Future series is one of the better ones out there.

But a movie that they do need to remake. And I don't know if you agree with me, but I just couldn't take it. The Beast Master. It wasn't the worst out there but it could do with some improvements.

Going to add something else. One movie they need to un-make...He-man.(Live Action.)

Back to the Future is one of my favorite trilogies of all time. It's way up on my list.

But then again, I'm not really a remake snob, so I don't mind when they remake movies. In fact, I tend to enjoy them, even IF they will never be as good as the originals (only in a rare occasion does a remake ever really overtake an original).

So yeah, I would LOVE to see them remake/reboot this franchise. I'd like to see a "next generation" version of these movies, even though I doubt they will capture the magic of the originals.

But that's just because I relish in any GOOD time travel movies out there (which, oddly enough, are very far and few between).
