Soooo, when you're sending out queries for your slipstream, magical realism, surrealist novel do you stick with agents who look for fantasy or do you also seek out those agents who specify interest the delightfully vague ideas of "general," "contemporary" and "literary" fiction?

The subgenres you're listing aren't all that different from each other. Call it a fantasy. Make the surreal tone clear in your query. Find books similar to yours and find out who agented them. These agents would be your best bet to try first. Good luck!
