I just got my annual cheque from the Canadian Public Lending Right Commission. Perhaps some published authors aren't aware of this, especially those who may be self published. Once registered with the commission, seven libraries are randomly sampled once a year to see if they carry your title. For every time up to seven times that they find your novel, you are paid $49.80 so if all libraries sampled carry your book you receive just under $350.00 for the first five years after registration. If you have multiple titles it can be a healthy sum. This past year a maximum author payment was $3,486.00 - nothing to sneeze at for simply being published!
