I just got my annual cheque from the Canadian Public Lending Right Commission. Perhaps some published authors aren't aware of this, especially those who may be self published. Once registered with the commission, seven libraries are randomly sampled once a year to see if they carry your title. For every time up to seven times that they find your novel, you are paid $49.80 so if all libraries sampled carry your book you receive just under $350.00 for the first five years after registration. If you have multiple titles it can be a healthy sum. This past year a maximum author payment was $3,486.00 - nothing to sneeze at for simply being published!

Britain has a similar scheme. There is is based on a very small amount per occassion your book is borrowed with a 6000 pound cap.

I didn't get a cheque. Le sigh.

I guess it's time to get published.

That sounds awesome. And Kaitie, we can move to Canada together. I'd love their weather and their festivals. The extra money would just be a bonus (assuming I ever get published... not being negative, as I haven't really put anything out there to be rejected yet...).
