I looked around and didn't see a thread for this, but if there is feel free to merge this.

I was wondering what presses out there accepted short stories or novellas. I'm finishing up a story that is a little over 10,000 words long and wasn't sure if there was any paying market for it.

Contemporary and/or urban fantasy is my usual default genre, but I've been playing more and more with the paranormal romance side of things, which is what this story would be.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

ETA: I should also say I don't write erotica, which limits me even more, I assume.

Hi KL,

Our very own Cathy has consolidated all of the major pubs into a central sticky here.

But, to answer your question, many of the epubs work with novellas and Harlequin epubs several novella lines (Nocturn Bites, for example --see guidelines here). I have a 15k novella under '2nd editorial review' with the Harlequin Undone line (historical) and it's been, oh, 8 months and counting since I queried...

Best wishes!

I read that some time ago, and I spaced it out. Time to go reading again!

Thanks :)

So I guess I should phrase it a different way: Is there any pubs/presses you all would recommend?

Have you tried Wild Rose Press? I know their sister company, White Rose, will do shorts starting at 10,000 words (inspirational.) I just published one with them and think they are wonderful.

Both Wild Rose Press and Samhain Publishing accept and publish novellas, though they won't go into print unless they're chosen as part of an anthology.

My friend just published an 8,000 word novella with Breathless Press. There are many e-pubs that accept short works. Just have to look around a bit. Good luck!
