I usually pay pretty close attention to the entire broadcast, but my attention was waning this year.

I'm disappointed Katheryn Bigelow didn't win, and that Avatar won Best Picture. It's also fairly telling of how bad Nine is that The Hangover beat it in their category--Hollywood Foreign Press loves musicals.

Mo'Nique's speech was the highlight, I think, and so it came far too early. RDJ was fun, too.

Also, I wanted to know what the heck Julia Roberts and Paul McCartney kept giggling about.

Yes, I was glad to see Sandra Bullock and RDJ win, too. Also Meryl Streep for Julie and Julia.

I haven't seen Up but my daughter got the DVD for Christmas so I'll watch it now.

I was very disappointed that The Hangover beat 500 Days of Summer. That, in my opinion, was extremely ridiculous. I know that 500 Days isn't exactly everyone's cuppa, but isn't that the sort of stuff the Foreign Press eats up?

I also found it laughable how obviously wasted everyone was. Did James Cameron really say he had to, ahem, "pee something fierce"? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he sure did. I think I'm going to try and work that into at least one conversation this week.

I was pleasantly surprised the Glee won for Best Comedy Series and Mad Men won for Best Drama Series. Stick that in yer pipe, HBO.

I watched it for a while . . . until I couldn't take the acceptance speeches anymore. I think I turned it off during Drew Barrymore's speech.

I wanted it to win, too. I'm surprised a bachelor-style American comedy went over so well overseas, but it did.

Funny that Tina Fey knew they were out of the running this year (she commented about it on the red carpet), and I'm okay with Glee's win even if I don't think it's the best comedy (but it is the only musical...). But like I said upthread, HFP loves their musicals.

And Lea Michele was one of the best dressed of the night. So was Reese Witherspoon.

Carey Mulligan was robbed. Of course, Abbie Cornish and Bright Star should have been up anyway. Mary and Max should have been nominated for Best Animated Feature. The Hurt Locker should have won over Avatar, and Bright Star should have been nominated and the winner over both of them.

 I thought the exact same thing when I watched it last night.

And Lea Michele was one of the best dressed of the night.

I didn't even recognize Lea at first. Then I realized it was her and gasped, "Oh em gee, she looks fabulous!"

I'm extremely glad Up won the award, I felt like Ponyo should have at least been nominated for either Best Foreign Film or Best Animated Film. They really nominated Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs over Ponyo? That's just silly.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I felt. I especially like the "actors applauding for themselves" bit, because really, James Cameron? First you talk about peeing, then you quote your own made-up language ...

Since a lot of people in that room are Academy members, I have faith they will vote in another direction.

I always liked how the Hollywood Foreign Press has a Best Foreign Film category.

Avatar deserved no awards. Why did it win best picture? Why is is selling tickets?

I just don't see the appeal.

Just due of the whole scope of Avatar, I could understand a Best Director win. But I still think the Oscar should go to Kathryn Bigelow, and I hope it does. The Academy might be Avatar'd out by the time March rolls around, and I think the SAG is a much better indicator of the Oscars as is the Golden Globes, even though we'll be looking at best ensemble cast there instead of picture.

What about the host? I like Ricky, but I got the feeling much of the audience was too self-conscious to laugh at some of his jokes.

I'm not sure if the recycled jokes about Steve Carrell and The Office were funny, or dated back to the 2008 Emmys.

Gervais was fine, although I could have done without the drawn-out penis jokes. I don't think they really used him, though. Shilling for The Office and his new show are very much aligned with Gervas' style (all for comedy, not just for real shills), but I feel like he didn't do much otherwise.

This coming from someone who likes Gervais quite a bit, and wanted him to host the Emmys (before they went with NPH, which is a great choice IMO).

I was confused about what the heck the "Abidah" thing Arnold Schwarzenegger was talking about, until he mentioned James Cameron... And then I was all "...oh. OHH!"

Ugh. It's an awards show. I haven't cared about them since the original Star Wars won every tech award for which it was nominated.

Every time I see the title of this thread, I can't help but think of Susan Anton's boobs...

Which not only gives my age away but reveals way more about me than I should probably allow folks to see...

Saw bits and pieces of the awards on the news.
Nothing to write home about, though I was glad Christopher Waltz won for Inglourious Basterds.
