I have a screenplay that has antagonists from the past that he must confront for a high school reunion years later. I do flashback over a few scenes after the catalyst about his high school life. Anyways after getting my first screenplay torn apart im now worried that this might not be a good antagonist? I like the screenplay(although its under a rewrite/polish), but just curious what others think. There is more to the story then that, in fact enough to make the whole 3rd act about an extra character but this question is stricly about antagonists from the past and present and if they are effective?

Well since lots of people deal with them I don't see why not. Especially if you make the emotions from the past strong enough. What you could also do is try to have the first part of the script set in the highschool time and just show us, then blend to modern day with the reunion coming up. Or the flashbacks could work. Also it depends on the other person, what did he do that was so bad. If you make them strong enough and have his personality unchanged then he would make a great antagonist.

I'll pm you cause I don't want to discuss details in public.
