Between there and there
Currently my MSW is set to open with Calibri, size 11, and normal format, with page breaks.
I'd to put it so it opens with Times New Roman, size 12, no spcaing format, and no page breaks.

And can whatever genius answers that, please please tell me how to keep the stupid program spell-checking in English (UK) and not English (US)? It's driving me nuts. I keep changing the default and it keeps on going back to US.

I haven't switched to W7 yet (so I'm a little blind here), but you might try bringing up the template file you use for blank documents and changing all the settings to the way your prefer them, then saving it.

one way to change the settings is to open a blank document. Set the things as you want them. Then go to Save As... select Template from the drop-down box. This will automatically set your save as location to the Templates folder. This is what you want. Name your file normal. (The full file name will be normal.dotx.) Hit save. Say "Yes" you do want to overwrite the file with the same name.

Close Word. Open Word with a new blank doc and see if it works. (It should.)

It's SO much easier to troubleshoot when you say what version of Word you have, you know.

Nonetheless, to attempt to answer your question:

In Word2007, it'll be Office Symbol--> Word Options (all the way at the bottom of the menu). The first menu on the left is Popular. This includes the button for Language Settings.

In Word2003 it's Tools--> Language--> Set Language. If you already have text in the document, you will have to select all the text (Ctrl+A) and then set the language to your preferred form. Otherwise it tends to not keep the language setting. (Your problem makes me think you have 2003 or earlier, but this is a thread about 2007...?)

It's not a universal setting, but rather per doc in many cases.

It may be useful to uncheck the "detect language automatically" box, too.

It didn't. Well, it did until I copied and pasted my 50k nano into it. *sigh*

So I opened openoffice. Which also didn't work. So I uninstalled it. Now msworks isn't working. So now I'm redownloading OO. I think it would be easier to wipe everything off and start again!

Technology hates me.

Sorry, it's MSword on the microsoft office/works not sure what year.
Go to Help, then there should be something like "About Microsoft Office Works". It will tell you which version you have.

Ellefire-- when you put your Nano in the doc, did you select ALL the text and THEN apply the language settings? This usually does it when changing the language settings. If you just change them without having all the text selected, then it doesn't usually work for the entire document.

And no, if you set the settings and then paste your text in there it WILL NOT keep the language setting. For some reason, it doesn't. You have to select all the text and apply the language setting.

Alley-- if a user is on Word2007, there is no Help Menu. Though I think the About MSWord button is tucked under the Office Symbol button.

No, maybe it's me who's confused. I just saw Works in one of Ellefire's posts and assumed that was what she was using, although she did say Word. I'm not even sure what's included with Works anymore (or whether MS still offers it). Maybe she is using Word 2007.
