Often, not always, when I go to the main board on this site, I's shown a brown square asking me to let the site link to my computer. This is similar to the square and request on Amazon on every page except the one for your payment info.

I think the AW site just started this around the first of Nov. It's easy enough to click no. I'm just wondering why it's doing it?

I suspect it's the Google ads, but I don't honestly know. Could you post a screenshot? Or email me one? (PM me for an email address).

We don't do anything particularly unusual. There are Google ads. vBulletin, the software that runs the forums, uses javascript (NOT java).

sounds a bit like something that happened to me, I forget what the message was, but came to the believe it was more from an update of my firefox/google possibly security related. With mine I could look at the options and so I clicked on the 'don't show me this again' and now I don't see it. It only did this on forum sites I found.

good luck to you

Stlight, to take a screen shot, look to the upper right portion of your keyboard. You'll find a key that says Print Screen. Press it and an image of exactly what is displayed on your monitor will be saved to your computer's clipboard. To save that image, paste it using Ctrl-V (pressed at the same time) into any program which can save images, such as Paint, PaintShop, Photoshop, etc., or to an image website like ImageShack.us or Flickr.com.

Once the image is saved, you can attach it to an email, or include a link to it if it's stored at an image website, or paste the image itself (rather than a link to it) into a private message by typing http://www.websitewhereitis.com/imagefindingnumber (and closing up the "img" tags' blank spaces).

Maryn, hoping this makes sense

You should save the screenshot as an image file on your hard drive first. Paint should be somewhere in your Start Menu. If not, click Run on the start menu, type in mspaint, hit Enter.

When the Paint window opens, paste (Edit, Paste). Then save the image as a JPG or PNG (PNG is better, but fatter in terms of file size). Make sure you know where the image is being saved and give it a sensible name that you can search for if you can't find it after!

Once you have the screenshot saved, we can get you through the next steps. It's a very useful thing to learn. ;)

paintpaint.png

Note that not all of the screenshot shows because the Paint window is smaller than the image -- see the scrollbars. Danged if I'm going to post a full-creen image and kill the thread lol. The image is not yet saved -- that's why it's called "Untitled". Never just save a raw screenshot in Paint, always Save as and choose your location and filename!

Even the address/url would be helpful.

I'm pretty sure it's a security setting on the Browser or the OS, but I'd rather check it out.

(I'm sure it's some perfectly legitimate program, but the mere notion of a rawhide minipad has me squirming...)

Maryn, mind in the gutter as usual

Demystification:
Mimipad is a little note-taking proggie that I use a lot. It can create different groups of notes, launch pads for starting other programs, and calculator pages. It's very handy when shopping. I've been shopping for rawhide, for making drums (I'm turning into my MC  ), so one note page full of links and notes is titled "rawhide".

And it has returned. Medievalist was right, not a large surprise there. This time when I failed to make the screenshot work, I did write down the urls.
current site http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net
trusted site res://ieframe.dll

I'll adjust and wait for it to go away again, if needs be.

I was just over at B&N and thinking how nice the little connect to your computer square wasn't turning up requiring three clicks to make it go away. Such thoughts get karma, probably.
