Been looking for a new laptop. One I've found at a good deal has an Athlon™ X2 dual-core processor L310. Does anyone know if this is a good processor?

Also, part of the time we'll be using the processor in an area where we can only use dial up. We're found one place selling laptops without built in modems. Is that a coming thing?

I plan to use Adobe photoshop on the computer. Someone told me for that to work I need 4 gigabites of ram and memory. Do I need that much? I'm just getting into working with photos.

Thanks,
Keyboard Hound

i think that Athlon with be fine for what you want. its dual core so that helps with the processing.

it probably has about 3 gig ram my guess, and that should be fine, i ran adobe and psp on 1 gig with no problems, doing animie and such. of course the more ram the better, but for avg usage like that, i'm sure the lappy yo mention will be fine

my lappy has a modem port...(too be honest i laughed at that because i remember the days of modems quite well. I swore i'd never return....good luck in the dark side.

you should be fine with that one

You can Google a processor and get a lot more opinions than you can here. I did that when computer shopping. As for the RAM, if you are going to work with a lot of layers you will need a lot of RAM. I have 4GB and haven't run into any problems yet. I use GIMP, not Photoplop, but it's all the same when you pile it on deep.

On the other hand, if all you are going to do is crop, resize, adjust color, and add effects...you don't need Photoshop. I do all that with IrfanView.
