I apologize if there is a thread already giving the answer to my question. I am writing my book in WordPerfect. I am probably going to publish the book through CreateSpace or some other similar outfit. Manuscripts have to be submitted in PDF format. How do I do that? Do I have to purchase a software package like Adobe PageMaker or Adobe Illustrator? I really am not very tech savvy and don't know what software programs are best. Also, I plan on hiring an artist do design my cover. What computer software does the cover illustration have to be compatible with? I know these are probably dumb questions, but I really have no clue.

There are free programs you can use. CutePDF works fine (just google it, it's easy to find). Once it's installed, you just use the print function and choose CutePDF as your printer.

If you use Office 2007 there's a downloadable add-on, so that when you click 'save as...' you can choose from the list of formats and pdf is there.

ETA: Doh. Sorry, just saw you mentioned WordPerfect. I'll let my post stand for the benefit of any Office '07 users.

If you use Google docs you can export in a number of formats including PDF. So you could import from Wordperfect to Googledocs and export a PDF. I've done this before.

Hi! When converting .doc files, there are a lot of converters online that you can download for free. For illustrations from Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Indesign, you have to use Adobe Bridge to convert all your .psds to .pdf. I hope i answered your question.
